Power Surge the Organization continues being recognized by the top fastpitch nationals in the country by receiving two berths to PGF Nationals. Our Power Surge berths were awarded to our 10u Power Surge Mujica team and our 14u Power Surge Berndes team who finished 2nd at 12u PGF Nationals last year.
Power Surge the Organization has received at least one PGF Nationals berth since the inception of PGF Nationals in 2009. We are very proud to be recognized as one of the top softball Organizations in the country.
It is a 5 Phase plan which we will start Phase 1 in July of this year 2020. We go to bid on the Phase 1 part of the plan this February. We decide on the bid by June and work begins July if all goes as planned.
What is in the plan?
No more dirt roads!
-The entire complex will be paved with much needed parking for hundreds of vehicles. Curbs, painted parking spots, turnarounds will be included.
-Infrastructure will be put under the parking lot for Sewage, Electrical, Potable Water.
-There will be parking lot lighting for the entire park which will make our Hickman facility much safer.
-We will be adding two very much needed permanent bathroom facilities.
That is 8 million dollars for the first Phase.
We will be planning the next couple phases and the City is planning to help raise money for the next phases. But we at Hickman will have to do fundraising and other ways to raise that money. We look forward to our next opportunity and working with the City to better our park.
We would lastly like to thank Councilmember Chris Cate and the rest of the City staff for their hard work in raising money and making this happen.
Another Championship for our Power Surge young'uns PS 10u Mujica this weekend in a dominant performance. They went undefeated, scored 48 runs, and gave up zero runs.

Power Surge is so happy to announce our 12u Power Surge Chavez very good team just received a berth to PGF Premier Nationals the top of the top Nationals in the United States. This is very prestigious!
Power Surge Chavez was readying itself to hit the PGF Nationals qualifying road traveling to Las Vegas, Phoenix, Huntington Beach, to try to qualify for PGF Nationals. But they have been playing so well beating all the top teams in SoCal that the PGF people felt that they deserved an Invite Bid now. Awesome! Saves our PS Chavez team a ton of money to not have to travel to try to get the PGF Berth and lets them prepare better for PGF Nationals.
They may be looking for a player or two to help them at PGF Premier Nationals. If interested please contact our PS Chavez team.
All of the PowerSurge coaches who have coached these two young ladies will tell you how great it is to coach them. Go Dominican Stars!

Wow! Our first year Power Surge 12 & Under team of all 11 year olds traveled all the way to Tucson, Arizona, and is coming home the Champions of the Tucson tournament. You 11 year olds are not supposed to beat all those older teams, even one 14u team that played down.
Analesse 'Peanut' Garcia was just honored by being selected the 6th best 2025 player in the country. Peanut certainly deserved the lofty rating dominatimg the 12u division last year as a young 11 year old. Abby Johnston (left) committed to Aurora University and Audrey Kull (right) committed to San Francisco State. These two girls are best friends and have been playing softball together since they were 6 years old so it's only fitting that they both verbally accepted their offer on the same day.

Coach Scott Berndes Honored by ExtraInnings Softball Top 100 Rankings
23—Scott Berndes (Power Surge 12U)
Coach Berndes, a former D1 college baseball pitcher who started coaching softball when his daughters got old enough, has been a club coach for 22 years and he’s had tons of success with young players. He’s had 20 straight years of Top 20 finishes at Nationals, two national championships, a runner-up finish at PGF Nationals and two Triple Crown World Series titles. Some of the top players that have come through his program are Lisa Dodd (UCLA), Selina Ta’amilo (UCLA), Carlee Wallace (Auburn), Summer Hargett (Northwestern) and Hannah McEwen (Arkansas). “Play the best to be the best,” Berndes said. “I am not a Lou Holtz trying to downplay everything. I love a target on our backs as it means teams are trying to catch up with us. … Make practice fun. Do not replicate practices. Change them up. Make it interesting. Most practice should be station teaching. No standing around. … One of my goals and it challenges me every day is to make sure to teach something new every day in practice. Been doing this for 20 years, so it isn’t easy.” |
Power Surge Mack 12u rolled through this past weekends Rancho Tourney going undefeated.

T-20 (23)—Scott Berndes (Power Surge)
Coach Berndes has led his San Diego-based Power Surge team for five seasons now and overall in his career has 21 years of coaching experience. You know you’re doing well when he says” “We finished 3rd in Colorado which was very good and 9th at PGF which was a disappointment.” That, because of the strong success historically for the program which includes ASA National Championships in 2009 and 2012 and no less than 13 other Top 10 finishes in nationals including PGF where the Surge took 2nd two years ago at 12U and finished 5th back-to-back years in 2016 and 2017 at PGF 10U Nationals. The current team, like teams of the past, have schools such as UCLA, Oklahoma, Duke, Arizona State and others following closely but that’s not unusual as Coach Berndes has placed 128 players in colleges over the years. “I’m proud that so many have gone on to the UCLAs and Harvards and are now doctors, lawyers and coaches,” he explains. “As for my coaching career, it is placing my many players with mostly free educations so they can move on to become great members of their communities.” On a personal note, compliments to the coach for being a great son who also is the sole caretake and provider for his mother who is 106 years old. “I am no young’un anymore,” he laughs, “she lived through two pandemics in 1918 and 2020, wore cardboard shoes to school during the depression of 1928 as they could not afford better and saw the invention of television, color television, World War I, World War II and on and on. She is doing great and we’re looking forward to celebrating her 107th birthday in 2022

Scott Berndes is a legend in the game and at 72-years-old he jokes: “I feel like I am coaching against my grandchildren sometimes!” A former DI pitcher, Coach Scott has been leading fastpitch teams for 28 years and says the turning point came when he was coaching his daughter in rec ball and thought it “was a joke… ‘Oh well,’ I thought and then I med Federal Judge John Hargrove—the guru of rec ball coaches and my mentor. He got me hook, line and sinker.” The San Diego-area club coach also oversees one of the few travel softball organizations that run their own four field facility. “We mow. We fix sprinklers. We schedule it. We host our own tournaments,” Berndes explains. “Rachel Garcia does hitting and pitching lesson at our fields and we also have the nationally known Powerhouse Mechanics Pitching Academy that runs out of fields. Coach Scott has had over 140 players make it to the next level—with a balance of many going to Power 5 schools while others heading to Ivy League programs. One of his peers commented: “We all admire Scott for his longevity in the sport and he has historically been success in building up top teams

HUGE Day for Power Surge yesterday!!!! Yesterday was the beginning of Open Recruiting for Juniors in high school. And, man, Power Surge cleaned up. There wasn't a major college that did not contact one or our Power Surge players. From UCLA to Stanford, to Tennessee, to LSU, To Harvard. Was an amazing day.
We even had two players sign with Cal State Fullerton.
Younger coaches, this will be your players. Work hard, get good grades, play the right tournaments, WIN. That is the formula!
Power Surge Berndes/ Trammell is really kicking into gear this Fall winning one major SoCal tournament, the NIT Fireworks, and finishing 2nd in the PGF Shootout. 16 games in 9 days was hard to ask of the team but they persevered in great fashion..
In the PGF Shootout pitching and defense led the way. Power Surge is one of those lucky teams with three #1 pitchers. Check these ERA'S for the tournament; Alex Riggs at .73, Mya McGowan at 1.47 and Callie Christian at 3.50. Hard to beat a team with that kind of pitching.
Needless to say the college scouts are flocking to our games.
